At the recent Conference on Data Centres Towards Net Zero in Kuala Lumpur, irix was represented by its Chief Technology Officer, Dmitriy Nikolaychik, who contributed to discussions on balancing rising digital demand with sustainable infrastructure.
Drawing on irix’s experience operating Malaysia’s first Uptime Institute Tier IV certified data centre in Sarawak, Dmitriy shared how efficiency can be achieved even under challenging tropical conditions, with the facility consistently maintaining a PUE below 1.25. Sustainability is integral to the design: a closed-loop cooling system minimizes reliance on local water resources, while access to Sarawak’s 70% hydro-powered grid and the BaSICS subsea cable enables the delivery of greener energy alongside robust global connectivity.
These lessons demonstrate that sustainability does not need to be treated as a premium feature, but can instead be embedded into the very foundation of data centre design.
